This first-year text is designed for the college instrumental and vocal major who needs to satisfy the normal keyboard requirement.\u00a0 It contains practical materials for a life-long career in music: studying scores, playing simple accompaniments, understanding keyboard harmony, reading lead sheets, realizing chord symbols, improvising and so on.\u00a0 Playing solos and ensemble music with the proper technique rounds out piano study.<\/div>\n

This widely adopted text includes eight chapters and an appendix.\u00a0 It covers a full year of study in its eight chapters.\u00a0 It also includes a CD with tracks prepared by Dr. Geoffrey Haydon.\u00a0 Dr. Reid Alexander has selected appropriate classical repertoire and composer Professor Tony Caramia has written many new solos for this edition.\u00a0 Additional solos have been composed by Dr. Lyke and Dr. Haydon.\u00a0 Dr. Ronald Chioldi has been responsible for the Musicianship Acticities and Technique sections at the end of each chapter.\u00a0 Dr. Lyke has added many new selections for the sight reading and harmonziation segements as well as arranging folk popular songs and ensemble pieces.<\/p>\n

Keyboard Musicianship, Piano for Adults, Book Two provides comprehensive and diverse materials for the second-year, group-piano class, college curriculum. The materials in this book integrate repertoire and technical studies with practical piano skills such as sight-reading, score reading, and accompanying. In addition, it follows closely with the third and fourth semester college music theory course sequence by incorporating activities such as harmonization of folk and popular melodies, performance of traditional and jazz chord progressions, harmonic musical analysis, and improvisation.<\/p>\n

The text’s eight chapters and appendices provide a wealth of diverse material. Chapters one through four are normally covered in the first semester class, with chapters five through eight covered in the second semester class. Appendices A-C provide a glossary of musical terms, fingerings for all scales and arpeggios, and supplemental holiday music and patriotic songs. In addition, each chapter contains a new, special feature that introduces students to detailed, sequential instruction in improvisation.
