Congratulations to fourth-year Eastman student Helen Freeman for winning the Principal Flute position with the Chattanooga Symphony & Opera. She will begin her appointment in September, performing with both the orchestra and their wind quartet.
In addition to performing extensively with Eastmanβs large instrumental ensembles, Helen has played numerous solo recitals and appeared with her wind quintet, the Lyra Winds. She is an active substitute musician whose engagements include the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Erie Philharmonic, and The Syracuse Orchestra.
A recipient of an orchestral fellowship to the National Repertory Orchestra in 2025 as well as being an orchestral fellow at the National Orchestral Institute + Festival in 2024, her honors also include winning the National Flute Associationβs Masterclass Performers Competition and being named a finalist in both the New York Flute Clubβs Young Artist Competition and the Brevard Music Centerβs Concerto Competition.
Helen is a candidate for the Bachelor of Music degree in flute performance, studying with Bonita Boyd and Anne Harrow.
